Visit Nantucket this fall for the festivities and the foliage.
Fall in Nantucket is just around the corner and what better time to plan your trip there than during the cooler, more colorful months?
Grab a comfy sweater, some riding boots and a ferry ticket and head to Nantucket with us for the perfect fall day.
Bike Rides through colorful trails – The island’s paved roads and scenic paths showcase gorgeous fall foliage this time of year, whether through forests, bogs or coastal stretches. Rent a bike in Town at Young’s Bicycle Shop and spend the day cycling the island with fun pitstops along the way. See our Cycler’s Guide for more.
Coastal walks & peaceful beaches – With summer crowds gone, beaches like Jetties, Surfside and Cisco become tranquil spots for strolls, beach combing, or even a slightly chill (but peaceful) swim.
Cranberry bog tours – Often part of what was formerly known as the Cranberry Festival in early October, you can tour the bogs and get a glimpse of how this iconic crop is harvested.
Scalloping in the harbor – One of Nantucket’s most beloved traditions is scalloping, and the “family” scalloping season for recreational harvesters usually starts in early October. Pick up some scalloping equipment and head to Madaket Harbor for some famous Nantucket Bay Scallops. See our guide for more information.
Sunset happy hour on the beach – Cozy up at dusk with a happy hour beverage and watch the sunset. Madaket Beach, on the island’s western tip, has some of the most stunning sunsets. Or grab a mudslide at the Gazebo or a cocktail at Galley Beach.
Nantucket has several fall festivities that visitors and locals alike won’t want to miss, including:
Nantucket Island Fair, September 13 and 14 – A mix between a harvest festival and the island’s famous Cranberry Festival.
Restaurant Week, end of September/early October – Although the dates haven't been set yet, visit some of Nantucket's finest and most popular eateries for special deals and better seating during the "off season."
Nantucket Shellfish Association’s Scallopers Ball, October 3 – See the Nantucket Shellfish Association for more information.
Cobblestones & Cranberries, an annual local shopping event, October 10-13 – See the Nantucket Chamber for more information.
14th Annual Nantucket Half Marathon and 10k, October 12
Halloween Parade, October 31 – See the Nantucket Chamber for more information.
