When to Book Your Summer Vacation

Nantucket is the perfect spot for a summer vacation, but when is the right time to book your trip?

Did you know that travel experts generally recommend planning your summer vacation at least three to six months in advance? So for a vacation during the peak summer months of June through August, that means starting your planning process as early as January or February!

Experts recommend this timeline to secure the best options for flights, accommodations, and activities.

Our agents at William Raveis Nantucket say that come March many of the island’s most coveted rentals are filling up for summer.

“It's never too early to book your rental for the 2025 summer season,” says William Raveis Nantucket Operations Manager Jenny Gifford. “Ferry reservations will open in January, so now is the perfect time over the holidays to sit with family and friends and work out your 2025 vacation plans.”

If you’re considering popular summer destinations like Nantucket, Cape Cod, or coastal Europe, booking by early February is ideal for the best availability and rates. For Nantucket, particularly in more popular neighborhoods like Surfside, Cisco, or Sconset, booking by November–January for the following summer is ideal

Target timeline for booking a summer vacation

Ideally, booking January to March can get you the best deals and most availability.

Flights: Airlines release summer flight schedules around this time. Booking 3-6 months early secures better fares and seat choices.

Accommodations: Beach vacation rentals, hotels, and resorts are in highest demand for summer, so early booking ensures prime locations.

Activities: Tours, restaurants, and experiences often sell out during peak weeks. Booking early guarantees availability.

April to May (Last Call for Prime Options)

Accommodations and flights are still available during this time but often at higher prices. This is when procrastinators start feeling the pressure, and popular destinations book up.

June (Last-Minute Planning)

Limited availability remains, and prices are typically at their peak. You might find deals in less popular or off-the-beaten-path destinations.

Things to keep in mind when booking

Holiday weeks like Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day book quickly and can be more expensive. If you’re targeting these, plan 9-12 months ahead. Additionally, school summer vacation time drives family demand in June, July, and August.

To get better deals in a vacation spot like Nantucket, avoid holiday weeks or plan your trip before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. The island still has great weather in September and is often less crowded.

Luckily there’s still plenty of time to plan your 2025 summer vacation, but don’t delay! William Raveis is ready to help find the perfect home to fit your needs. Browse our listings below or call a rental agent at 508-228-9117 to book your next Nantucket vacation adventure.
